Help Us, Help You - Stay Well This Winter

Winter is a very busy time for the NHS and health services in general, the NHS Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) are encouraging local people to prepare to ensure that we Stay Well This Winter.

Winter conditions can put a strain on our health, especially for people aged 65 or older, and people with long-term conditions such as bronchitis, asthmas, diabetes or heart disease.

Colder weather has a significant impact on the number of people becoming ill, increasing the winter pressures felt by your local health services.

Dr Teresa Strefford, executive clinical director at the NHS Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) explained;

“The NHS is here to help when self care is not enough, but there are some important things we can all do to look after ourselves during the winter months.

“If you do feel unwell, even if it’s a cough or a cold your local pharmacist can give you treatment advice and over the counter medicines for a range of minor illnesses. They will also tell you if you need to see a doctor. Get advice from them to help you care for yourself."

Dr Strefford added:

“Throughout the colder months, looking out for yourself and others is essential to keeping healthy. Make sure that elderly, vulnerable relatives and neighbours are as prepared as possible.

“Make sure that you wrap up warm and have your heating on if you need to.

“Also, one of the most important things you can do to keep yourself well is to get your free flu jab as soon as you can, if you qualify for it.”

If you have an urgent medical concern and you’re not sure what to do call NHS 111 or go online to NHS 111.
